Rotational

Position

Detection

The rotational position of the toner carousel is detected by the toner

carousel position sensor (PS4) by monitoring the number of passing

rotational position ﬂags. The eight rotational position ﬂags include the

home position ﬂag (which also serves as magenta cartridge fetch posi-

tion ﬂag) and the fetch and stop position ﬂags for each of three other

colors. The home, fetch, and stop ﬂags are of different widths.

When PS4 detects a ﬂag, the developing rotary position sensor signal

(

DEVHP) is set to “H.” The CPU on the mechanical controller recog-

nizes which ﬂag (the home position ﬂag, stop position ﬂag, or fetch

position ﬂag) is being detected based on the time during which the

DEVHP signal is set to “H.”
