50 Chapter 2
4 Carefully slide the drive carrier assembly backward until it is released from the floor of the
computer, then lift it out.
5 Assign a unique SCSI ID number to the device.
Check the instructions that came with the device for information on setting its ID number.
Some manufacturers have World Wide Web sites that provide information on configuring
drives. You can also contact an Apple-authorized dealer, who may be able to install the drive
for a fee.
If your computer came with one Wide Ultra2 SCSI device, set the SCSI ID to any number but
0 or 7. If your computer came with two devices, use any SCSI ID number but 0, 1, and 7.
A single factory-installed drive uses SCSI ID 0; a second factory-installed drive uses SCSI ID 1;
and a third factory-installed drive uses SCSI ID 2. The SCSI PCI card has been assigned ID 7.
If you select one of these numbers for a new drive, the drive will not work properly.
Gently slide the entire drive carrier
assembly toward the rear of the computer
and lift it completely out. Be careful not
to crimp or abrade any wires that are
near or under the assembly.
